Calling all Dan Blanks!

Calling all Dan Blanks!

This is a revamp of a blog I wrote several years ago.

I thought I would wax a little nostalgic today and ask, “Where are all of the Dan Blanks?” Specifically, are there any other people named Dan Blanks and, if so, where are they?

Blanks is not the most common name you’ll ever come across. In my entire life, I encountered exactly one person outside my immediate family with the same surname. Several decades ago, a guy standing in front of me in line at my allergist said his name was “Blanks.” I bubbled over with, “Wow, hey, you and I have the same last name and as far as I know you aren’t a close relative, isn’t that something?”

Yes, in case you were wondering, I don’t have much of a life.

Anyways…As the personal owner of the danblanks.com domain name, I wait with bated breath for the day when someone named Dan Blanks gets rich and famous and absolutely MUST have the danblanks.com domain for ONE MEEEAALLLLION DOLLARS!!!

And I will say up front that I can be flexible about that figure.

To date, I haven’t gotten any nibbles. I know, shocking. Perhaps I should rethink my retirement strategy…

When I first did an article on this subject several years ago, there were only a few hits for “Daniel Blanks”. One was a euro-techno-pop group named “Daniel Blanks”. It doesn’t look like they are active anymore, but if you look you will find some of their stuff out there.

Other than that, hits for anyone named “Blanks” were very scarce. There was an acapella group called The Blanks which sometimes sang on the television show Scrubs.

I especially enjoyed their rendition of The Underdog cartoon theme at about the 1 minute mark here and The Six Million Dollar Man theme here.

The identically named The Blanks was a garage band hailing from Michigan. No telling if they are still active or not, but you can listen to their music at their website.

There are a lot more hits for “Daniel Blanks” and “Dan Blanks” these days in LinkedIn and Facebook. What used to be a treasure hunt is depressingly easy. Darn those improved search engines!

In another interesting twist, several years ago my sister Donna decide to marry a man named Dan Banks. Seriously.

More on that another time.

If I don’t limit myself to “Dan”, the most famous Blanks I could find was Billy Blanks.

Billy was a martial arts champion and inventor of Tae Bo, a body fitness method that uses martial arts techniques. OK, so maybe Billy and I aren’t closely related, but I’ll take what I can get here. It is interesting, maybe, that Billy and I are only a couple of months apart in age. I’m certain he could still kick my ass without breaking a sweat. Hell, most guys who can walk upright can kick my ass these days.

Long live the Dan/Danny/Daniel Blanks, wherever you are!

P.S.– and if the website domain name interests you, well, get out your checkbook and we will talk, ‘kay?
