Margy’s cat Fang was an expert at communicating his likes and dislikes. I used that knowledge to write this for Margy shortly after he passed.
Dear Mommy,
I am OK in Kitty Heaven. It is very nice here. I live in a house that looks just like ours. Every day is sunny and warm, but not too hot, and my special sunbeam shines through the window. The nights are cool and quiet and I sleep a lot.
The doors are always open and I go outside whenever I want. The fence door is open, too, so I can explore all over the place. You don’t have to worry about me being out of the backyard because there are no cars or dogs or mean cats in Kitty Heaven. Somehow, I never get lost, and I always find my way back home.
Whenever I get hungry or thirsty, my food and water dishes appear right next to me. I can eat as much of my favorite food as I want. My litter box is always clean, no matter how often I use it. And they let me drink out of the toilet bowls and the flower pots!
There are no baths or vacuum cleaners or doorbells in Kitty Heaven. And I can get on all the furniture, even the dining room table!
Because I never get sick or feel bad, I don’t have to go to that mean vet. I didn’t like that at all! But now I know you just wanted me to feel better. I guess Mr. Vet wasn’t such a bad person after all. I was just scared of being in a strange place where people poked things up my bottom and looked in my ears.
All the people here are very good to me and pet me a whole bunch. But sometimes I get lonely, so I go back to our real house to see you again. You can’t see me anymore, but I’m still there. On sunny days, I lie in my special sunbeam or get in my special chair and have a nap. At night when you’re asleep, I get in bed beside you and purr softly in your ear. When you dream about me, I am in your arms and snuggled up close.
I got to see Daddy again, too. Thank you for finding him for me. He wrote this letter for me since I can’t write, but he knows how I feel, so that’s OK.
My brother Pharaoh is in Kitty Heaven, too. He is happy that I am here. We have lots of fun and play together like we used to.
You see, we’re all kittens again in Kitty Heaven.
Love always,
Fang
